LYNN SWAN – Mrs. ProDeal / BI Staff

-
Where were you born?
A: Detroit, a quaint hamlet in southern Michigan.
-
Favorite Food?
A: Anything that I did not prepare. At the top of the list: Four Swallows' crab cakes and Caesar salad,
San Carlos' halibut tacos, the Streamliner Diner's peach muffins and my friend Steffi's chicken picatta. Yum.
-
What's on your iPod?
A: U2, The Tragically Hip, Marvin Gaye, the Gypsy Kings
-
Worst job ever?
A: Hands down, cleaning the grease traps in the Glacier Bay National Park lodge's kitchen at the end of the
season.
-
Alias?
A: Linguini. My maiden name was Guerrini. "Lynn" + "Guerrini" = "Linguini"
-
Favorite Books?
A: "Cold Mountain," "Into Thin Air," "Where the Red Fern Grows" (I cried it was so sad), David Sedaris' "Naked"
(I cried it was so funny) and Dr. Seuss' "Hop on Pop" because it bears the distinction as the only book I have
read and re-read, at least a gazillion times, aloud. (Whoever said two-year-olds have short attention spans,
never met my son.)
-
Favorite Movies?
A: In descending order, great to guilty pleasures: The Piano, Shawshank Redemption, The Road to Perdition, Fargo,
That Thing You Do, Something About Mary, Vacation (the one where the Griswolds head to Walley World), Superstar,
and if we broaden the category a wee, American Idol.
-
I can eat a lot of...
A: Cookies, peanut butter
-
Pet
A: Two cats. Brothers in crime and adventure, Sam and Pippin. These, however, are not your garden variety
Lord-of-the-Rings precious metal hunting cats. These are modern, technology savvy hunters and destroyers of
phone chargers, headphones, I-pod ear buds, computer mouse wires (that one I get—rodent predation being
genetically hardwired in felines, after all) and on the low-tech end of things, drapery pulls and hair ties.
House guests, be forewarned.
-
Favorite trail/climb?
A: Toss up. Either Heather Meadows, near Mt. Baker in the fall (blazing orange and red blueberry bushes—breathtaking)
or anything that leaves from Paradise in August on a clear day (wild flowers, glaciers, blue sky—intoxicating).
-
What is your dream vacation/trip?
A: A month on an exotic island where I can snorkel all day in turquoise colored waters surrounded by scads of colorful
fish, coral, sea turtles and dolphins. The air temperature would be in the 80's and smell like gardenias. Tropical
birds would caw and twitter night and day. And someone would be asking me, not in English, what I would like to eat
and when. Oh, and no mosquitoes.
-
Who's one of your hero's and why?
A: Just recently I learned about Emmanuel Jal, a former child soldier in Sudan's brutal civil war and now, a hip-hop
musician working to bring peace to Sudan and Kenya. His vision is to build a school and medical center in Leer, Sudan,
Jal's hometown. His ability to move beyond the tragedies inflicted upon him at age seven, heal, forgive and use his
talents to create for good are truly inspirational. If you get a chance, check out the movie "War Child" or look into
his not-for-profit organization Gua Africa USA.
-
Favorite adult beverage?
A: Guess! What's a girl from a blue-collar town gonna' drink? BEER! Specifically, a cold pint of Mac and Jack's. My
palate is a bit more refined after living 28 years in the birthplace of many excellent microbrews. Do they still
even make Stroh's?
